Lasso the Rainbow

Riding through the desert, hotter than a two-dollar pistol
I ate a little sugar cube, and things got real mystical
I stopped when a woman with boots up to her thighs
Said “Hold on to your hat cowboy, I’m your desert guide

She led me to the canyon, the high began to kick in
I saw her prairie pumpkins, just ripe for the picking
The moon was one big mirror ball, and I was dirty dancing
Well, I thought I was until I heard the sirens advancing

I’m a cowboy on LSD, riding through a dream
Alone on the dusty trail, my mind a latrine
I lassoed a rainbow, tied it to my hat
The sky’s a kaleidoscope, and I’m cool with that

Now I’m back out on the prairie, looking for some shrooms
The boots woman a memory, lost in the neon room
I found a speckled patch, strange and glowing in the dew
Ready to chase the rainbow so I gave them a chew

I met a coyote preacher in a chapel made of sand
He started preaching something I just didn’t understand
The road of dreams is paved with a blessing and a curse
I began to understand it, when he spoke in reverse

I’m a cowboy on LSD, riding through a dream
Alone on the dusty trail, my mind a latrine
I lassoed a rainbow, tied it to my hat
The sky’s a kaleidoscope, and I’m cool with that

I stumbled into a restaurant, it turned out to be a brothel
The madam whispered “Cowboy, wanna see the cactus blossom
I said, “Darlin’, I’m confused, but I’m willing to explore
Then she turned me into a tumbleweed and blew me out the door

So, if you see me wandering, with a far-off, distant grin
Just know I’m chasing visions of worlds I’ve been within
The honky tonk’s my heaven, and the desert’s my domain
Forever lost in ecstasy, on this psychedelic plane

But then the trip was over, and I woke up in the sand
With a cactus for a pillow and a bottle in my hand
